John Quinton DeWitt Jr., 76, of Greenville South Carolina, passed away on January 7, 2024. He was born on August 9, 1947, in Hastings Nebraska. John was a talented musician, teacher, brother and a friend to everyone he met. He was an electrical engineer and retired from Nebraska Public Power District after dedicating 23 years of his career to the field.

John served his country with honor and distinction serving in the US Navy and the US Army. His military service exemplified his commitment and dedication to his country.

John’s education journey began at Saint Mary’s Academy for his primary schooling, followed by Saint Mary’s High School for his secondary education. He went on to attend the US Naval Academy in Annapolis and the University of Nebraska, Lincoln for his higher education.

In his free time, he enjoyed playing bridge, the piano, and the organ. His love for music was evident in his talent and passion for playing these instruments.

John will be deeply missed by his surviving sister, Elizabeth Wroblewski of Ravenna, Nebraska and his brothers, Jim DeWitt of Greenville, South Carolina and Joe DeWitt of Sioux City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his father, John Q. DeWitt Sr., his mother, Mary E. DeWitt, and his brother, Robert E. DeWitt. John also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who will cherish his memory.

A funeral service to honor and celebrate John’s life will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 19, 2023, at the DeWitt Funeral Home in Hastings, Nebraska. Contributions in his memory can be made to Saint Michael’s Catholic Church in Hastings, Nebraska.
